Open Book and Board of Review

The Three-Step Process to Challenge the Assessed Property Value

City of Chilton property owners who have questions about the recent property assessments have a forum in which to research and challenge the assessor’s statement.

The three-step process begins April 3, 2018 through April 10, 2018 as residents can review the current year assessment roll. The session, called Open Book, allows residents to compare the assessment of their properties to other similar properties in the community. The Open Book is available for your own review each day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The second step in the process is to schedule an appointment with the city assessor. After gathering your data from the open book session, Chilton property owners demonstrate their case before the assessor. The assessor then makes a recommendation.  If the property owner does not agree with the assessor's recommendation, owners are encouraged to take their case before the Board of Review, the final step.

The final step in the process is to state your case before the city’s Board of Review (BOR) on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 8:15 AM to 10:15 AM.  Prior to the meeting, property owners will need to file an objection form and schedule an appointment to have your case heard before the board.  A property owner can request to testify by telephone or submit a sworn written statement at BOR.

Once the date and times are set you can make an appointment for any of these phases or if you have questions, please contact Accurate Appraisal at (800) 770-3927 or or the Chilton City Hall at 920-849-2451. We will need the following information to schedule your appointment:
